Los Angeles County Department of Public Works
This $24 million project consists of the complete renovation of six existing vacant jail buildings to convert them into classroom buildings with 38,000 SF of state of the art facilities that will house the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Training Bureau and Academy which is to be relocated from Whittier, California. The project also includes the construction of a new amphitheater and grinder area for training exercises and ceremony seating, and the installation of a 60 foot communication monopole.
Both the Training Bureau and the Professional Development Bureau headquarter units will be located at BRTC, as will the following units: Recruit Training, Advanced Officer Training, Field Operations Training, Weapons Training, and Tactics and Survival Training (Laser Village). BRTC will serve as this Department’s premier training venue.
The project is being constructed in several phases with the initial site demolition and rough grading phases being completed by Job Order Contracts, and the Final Improvements package being bid as a traditional design-bid-build contract.
