Campus Kilpatrick opens its doors.
June 30, 2017Campus Kilpatrick had its official grand opening June 30th, as speakers from various public agencies offered emotional speeches about the promise of the new juvenile detention center that focuses on a rehabilitative and therapeutic approach to juvenile justice intervention.
A dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony, involving probation leaders, county officials and community advocates, including former County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky and current County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl, celebrated this milestone for the County.
The $48M project includes demolition of the old camp and construction of the new campus that includes an administrative building, a support/education center, and five individual cottages (home-like residential style housing for the minors), a commons building, a full size gym/multipurpose room, a culinary arts classroom, a construction lab, an ancillary building, new kitchen, and various site improvements. Move-in for the new residents is July 3rd.
Congrats to Fernando Canon, who was the County’s Project Manager for the project!
